The Green Waste Team at La Collette, part of the Governments Solid Waste department produce a Soil Improver from garden cuttings and pruning’s.

The product is made at the department’s Green Waste facility where, after a carefully controlled 12-week process, the raw material is turned into a high-quality peat-free material.
The compost process is carried out in accordance with PAS 100, a widely recognised standard within the organics recycling sector. The material is monitored throughout the process and independently tested and verified to ensure it meets this standard.

This is an excellent example of using local waste to produce a valuable resource and means Jersey can reduce its reliance on importing products derived from peat.

The soil improver is available in 40 litre bags and bulk quantities either loose or in 1,000 litre bags, collection is available during site opening hours at the Household Green Waste site and for bulk orders by calling Telephone 448491.
